"Kali" is a term indicating"bladed art". This warrior art of the Philippines was passed down through generations until, under Spanish rule, they outlawed the sword and the practice of this art form was nearly lost. Practiced in secret or disguised as a dance, the modern Kali practitioner slowly transitioned from blades to rattan stick for training.
In this class, students will be taught through a variety of methods and tools and the student will quickly learn angles of attack with objects such as a knife, sword, spear or even with an empty hand. No worries if this all seems too scary, we'll have NERF weapons for training!!!!

Tai Chi Chin Na

Chin Na is the art of seizing and controlling, and is an element of all Chinese martial arts including Tai Chi Chuan.Today, most people practice Tai Chi Chuan to maintain health or cure sickness. For the last fifty years the martial aspects of Tai Chi Chuan have been ignored, and the art is now incomplete. Most practitioners no longer understand the martial applications of Tai Chi Chuan, or even that it is a martial art. For example, the concept and training methods of Tai Chi Jin (or Tai Chi martial power), and how to apply internal Qi in the martial arts have become an unfamiliar subject in Tai Chi societies today. As a result, actual martial applications of Jin and Qi, such as Chin Na or Pressure Point Strikes, are currently not popularly known or studied.
To preserve Tai Chi's martial aspect, this ongoing class presents fighting applications from the Tai chi forms, single, double and moving pushing hands, and Tai Chi Chin Na, the art of controlling an opponent through joint locks, sealing the blood, preventing respiration and pressure point strikes.
Tai Chi Chin Na is one of the four main martial training categories of Tai Chi Chuan (the other three categories are striking, kicking, and wrestling / downing the opponent). Of all these four, Chin Na is the most effective, practical, powerful, and easiest to learn. Once you have mastered Tai Chi Chin Na, you will be able to apply the theory and techniques to any other martial style you practice. If you are a Tai Chi or Kung Fu beginner, Tai Chi Chin Na could offer you a key to enter the door of applying your martial art in real combat.

Gnosticism, the philosophy that emerged as a reaction to orthodox Christianity, has gained popular interest in the last few decades. The discovery of the Nag Hammadi library (a group of Gnostic writings) in 1945 created a renewed interest in this ancient sect and since has influenced such prominent figures as Carl Jung and Herman Hesse.
